Carphone Warehouse, the UK retailer that accidentally allowed their pre-order page for the Nexus 4 to go online two days ago, has released their apology for the error. Google, which until recent weather concerns, was expected to showcase the Nexus 4 along with several other new devices at an event this upcoming Monday in New York.
Reports state that the event has been delayed due to concerns over Hurricane Sandy, with no official information released yet as to when they will reschedule. The event was described by Google as “Android themed” and was expected to validate many of the rumors that have been circling for several months about the specifications of many of their upcoming devices. Nexus 4 specs, however, were prematurely released by the UK retailer on their website on October 25, though the pages were removed following several news stories about the release.
The company later released a short apology, stating:
“Unfortunately a pre-order page for a new handset that we plan to range went live prematurely. We’ve now rectified this and apologise for any confusion caused.”
The pre-order page unintentionally confirmed spec information such as screen size, which was labeled as 4.7-inches and a pixel density of 320ppi, higher than that of the Samsung Galaxy S3. The page also contained information about the 8MP rear-facing camera and a Quad-core Snapdragon processor. Not mentioned in the spec information were any hint of AMOLED or LTE. The pages surrounding the device were taken down by the company within a few hours of the release, but they can still be viewed through Google Search cache.
Although information was relatively limited on the pre-order page, this marks yet another large leak of information from Google in a week filled with poorly timed rollouts and financial data leaks. According to the BBC, neither LG or Google have provided public comment about the Carphone Warehouse situation.
