Remember the whole Apple lawsuit not too long ago? Samsung ended up losing the court case and was order to pay just over $1 Billion for a number of different patent infringements. While that seemed like a bad thing, as it turns out, that’s just a drop in the bucket compared to what they’re making.
The reality is that the average consumer doesn’t care about the whole patent system and if the manufacturer is supposedly infringing something or not. They just want a specific device and want it to work. That’s pretty much it. Even though there was a big deal made about the lawsuit between Apple and Samsung, it doesn’t seem to have affected their bottom line at all.
Samsung got in touch with investors ahead of time, October 26th which is when they’ll be releasing the full earnings report, and expects their total operating profits for the 3rd quarter of 2012 will be $7.28 Billion. If that seems like a ton, it is. In fact, this will be the fourth straight record quarter in a row in terms of profits.
Even though there’s been concerns as far as patents are concerned, that doesn’t seem to be slowing down Samsung one bit and with the incredible success of the Galaxy S III which has went on to sell over 20 Million units, it’s looking like they’ll be doing just fine come this holiday shopping season.
