It’s Nexus season folks! That time of year where everyone else is getting excited for Christmas far too early but us Android fans, we have something more important to look forward to. The latest Nexus phone. This year however, has been a real treat for die-hard Android fans thanks to the constant rumors surrounding numerous Nexus phones hitting shelves this fall. Just recently we bought you word of the Optimus G becoming a Nexus before long, as well as changes to the program itself. It looks like that’s coming true with word of Googlers testing the device right now.
Digitimes, the place where rumors are born, have bought us another doozy. The outfit is now claiming that LG, Sony, Samsung and HTC are all “potential partners” for the Nexus program. Whether or not that means we’ll have phones from all of them is unconfirmed but, this is something we’ve been hearing all year long it feels like, it’d certainly be a big boost for stock Android. Digitimes had the following to say about the rumor:
“Google reportedly will allow branded vendors to set hardware specifications as well as looks of the forthcoming Nexus smartphones as long as the models are based on its latest native Android system, said the sources, adding that this approach seems to be acceptable to brand players, since Google apparently is keeping its promise of not offering preferential treatment to Motorola.”
I know that I’d love to see Nexus phones from all of these manufacturers – especially to see HTC’s effort as they did a pretty good job on the first one. When CNET had approached Motorola for comment on whether or not we’d be seeing a Moto Nexus they had this to say: “We will absolutely be one of the people considered the next time Google delivers its Nexus phone…but we’re not going to receive special treatment.” This certainly reminds me of a “firewall” a certain Andy Rubin has been talking about ever since the merger went through earlier in the year. It appears that Google staff have been given models of the LG Nexus to test and it might mean a certain appearance from the Korean phone maker.
