Featured: ICS Leak for the Motorola Atrix 4G, Flash Away!

Well the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Motorola Atrix 4G (AT&T) has certainly been an up and down battle with Motorola. Most recently we’ve seen the update get changed from coming in Q3 of this year, which is now over, to not getting Ice Cream Sandwich at all. We’ve also seen some XDA forum members begging Motorola to “leak” the work they’ve already completed on the Atrix 4G and Photon 4G, which both status’ were changed to not get Android 4.0 officially.

Well yesterday, an Ice Cream Sandwich leak for the Atrix 4G landed on XDA. It doesn’t look like Motorola is actively working on an update for the Atrix 4G since the build was dated in August. But at least now ROM developers have a base to work with. So I’d expect a more stable ROM very soon. Judging by how fast Android 4.1.2 got into CyanogenMod nightlies, I’d say before the weekend.

If you want to flash this leak we’ve got instructions below for you. Follow them as long as your bootloader is unlocked, if it isn’t then you’ll need to complete these instructions first.

Once you have your bootloader unlocked, follow these steps:

  • Grab the .zip from here.
  • Make sure you have the Motorola drivers and the Moto-Fastboot.exe. Make sure the leak .zip is in the same directory as the fastboot.exe.
  • Reboot into CWM.
  • Wipe data and cache.
  • Reboot into fastboot and connect to computer via USB.
  • Open up a command prompt on your computer and navigate to the directory where the leak and fastboot are located.
  • Execute these commands:

moto-fastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
moto-fastboot.exe flash preinstall preinstall.img
moto-fastboot.exe flash radio radio.img
moto-fastboot.exe flash system system.img
moto-fastboot.exe flash webtop vendor.img
moto-fastboot.exe reboot

Your Atrix will reboot and then you will have some tasty Ice Cream Sandwich on your Motorola Atrix!

If you don’t want to bother with these fastboot commands, there is a clockworkmod update.zip available at XDA.
