With Android devices, we get better and better hardware, but what about the displays? Over the years, displays have gotten more detailed, but Apple has been the leader in terms of smartphone and tablet displays with their Retina line. Of course, the word “Retina” itself is just a marketing buzzword, but it’s helped to differentiate their product.
Next year, we’ll be seeing even higher definition displays thanks to the work that Sharp is doing on a whopping 443 ppi, 5 inch screen, although a Retina-like viewing experience is already here for tablets. Or so they say.
Thanks to China and the work done by two companies, PandaWill and one we’re not so sure as to their name, have each created a 9.7 inch Android tablet with a 2048 x 1536 display. Best all, they’re under $300. Now, even though this sounds impressive, one has to consider the potential downsides.
PandaWill for example doesn’t have the greatest reputation when it comes to build quality and these random, super cheap electronics from virtual unknowns tend to not live up to the hype, AKA, is crap. However, considering they’re under $300, one could take a risk, but that’s their choice. Both tablets look practically identical and are pretty much the same spec-wise…
- 9.7 inch IPS LCD at 2048 x 1536
- 1.6GHZ Rockchip RK3066 Cortex-A9 dual-core processor
- 1GB RAM
- 16GB internal storage with microSD card support up to 32GB
- 2 megapixel rear-facing and front-facing camera
- WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.0, supports external 3G USB
- 10,000 mAh battery that claims up to 10 hours of battery life
- Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean
The CHUWI V99 from PandaWill runs $289.99 with free Worldwide shipping while the Cube U9GT V costs $265.99, but it looks like you’ll have to pay for shipping. Considering that the term “Retina” is trademarked by Apple, something tells us these two won’t be around too long if the tech giant hears about this. And did we mention they’re pretty much a blatant copy of the iPad? See for yourself below.
