The new line of Kindle Fire HD tablets were announced early last month and while they run a forked version of Android versus the full 4.1 Jelly Bean experience on the Nexus 7, they look to offer some decent specs and performance. For dedicated Amazon customers, they’ll be a nice addition.
With the 7 inch tablet market heating up thanks to both Amazon and Google’s work, that also means other companies are looking to get in on the action after seeing just how successful a 7 inch tablet can be. One company by the name of SmartQ wants to take on both with the X7 which was announced today.
While it doesn’t rock a quad-core processor like the Nexus 7, the X7 does have a TI OMAP 4470 processor which is found in the 8.9 inch version of the Kindle Fire HD and not in the 7 inch version. Also, it has 1GB more of RAM. Here’s the specs overall:
- 7 inch 1280 x 800 IPS display
- TI OMAP 4470 dual-core processor
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB internal storage with microSD card support up to 64GB
- 2 megapixel rear-facing camera
- 2 megapixel front-facing camera
- WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS
- 4,200 mAh battery
- Aluminum body that’s 10% thinner than the 7 inch Kindle Fire HD
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with possibility of using CyanogenMod 10 UI
Also announced was another 7 inch tablet with a slightly lower resolution IPS display, slower dual-core processor, and 1GB of RAM. What makes this tablet different however is that it has a built-in DLP projector. Lastly, SmartQ is launching a new 9.7 inch tablet, the Ten4 which will have Jelly Bean, a better processor, and come in at an impress 7mm thick.
