We all know that Google Wallet isn’t exactly rocking in popularity these days, as any other mobile payment system. Just recently, Google introduced that now Verizon has joined carrier billing, where you can charge apps to your phone bill, which is absolutely awesome! When this was also announced, so was the fact that any apps purchased under $1.00 would have a “30 minute money-back refund.” It would seem that Google is on it’s ‘A’ game and just dishing out all kinds of treats for Androidians everywhere! The most recent treat is Google has expanded to “mobile shopping.”
So look out PayPal, you definitely got yourself some competition now! Yup, that is right, Google has expanded its Google Wallet system to incorporate a “more comprehensive digital payments platform.” I would say that Google definitely has the right idea. Google Wallet will now support “mobile e-commerce websites.” This is pretty much those websites that have PayPal as a form of payment, but instead will also sport the Google Wallet method as well.
The mobile method still needs some tweaks and fixes, as it causes “many form fields” in the processing area. This can be time-consuming and “cumbersome” for those on their mobile phones. Why? The small keyboards and touchscreens of course! Google released a statistic saying that 97% of “mobile shoppers” give up on a purchase for this exact reason. So, what did Google do? They went above and beyond, and now make it so “users can just click the ‘Buy with Google Wallet’ button, login into their Google account, and complete.” It’s just that simple! Amazing right? It definitely sounds a lot like “PayPal’s Express Checkout” option, so I wonder what ‘drama’ this may cause? Will PayPal sue Google? Just kidding, but it will definitely add a huge competitor out there for PayPal.
So how does it work? You will need to have an account first. Then you add your credit cards, or debit cards along with your address for billing and shipping. You can also add any other payment information if you wish. There will also be an option to add a default card for any “future purchases.” I really enjoy this feature, because then I don’t have to deal with which payment method I want to use that is if you have more than one, which is really nice and will save you some time.
Some sites that have already partnered with Google are:
- 1-800-Flowers.com
- Rockport.com
- FiveGuys.com (Select Locations apply)
Future partners are:
- Finish Line
- MovieTickets.com
- Seamless
- SwimOutlet.com
I’m certain this will grow as more and more site companies come in-tuned with Google and it’s services. I can’t wait until this is incorporated everywhere! I just may have to get rid of my PayPal account! Well, maybe we shall see 😛
Google also have another special treat! If you go to the Google Wallet website, you will see at the top of the page, “The next version of Google Wallet, coming soon. Request an invite.” HOW EXCITING!! I LOVE new things that are updated.
When you click on the link, it will prompt you to sign in. If you don’t have one, this is where you would create one. The next prompt asks you what kind of mobile device you have. Once, you select your device, you then receive a thank you message and that when the new version is ready you will receive an invite. Sounds pretty exciting to me! I’ve definitely signed myself up, and you should too!
What do you think about this recent Google Wallet development? Would it be something you would use regularly? Would you drop PayPal for Google Wallet? We’d love to hear your thoughts and we welcome all sides and opinions!
