Google hasn’t really announced where they stand on Google TV and the future of it. For many months now, it’s been speculated whether they’ll be letting the platform die or if they’re just way behind in updates thanks to a million other things to work on.
Well, it seems that Google TV isn’t facing its death quite yet with a new update that brings several new features. One of the first features is voice search which works as you’d expect it would. Search or navigate the web, open apps, pull up YouTube videos, including finding specific shows or channels.
Next up is PrimeTime which is essentially a renamed and improved TV & Movies app. Whatever show or movie you’re looking for, PrimeTime will help. It pulls together live TV, favorite channels, recently watched shows, and other suggestions in a sleek interface.
Also, an update to YouTube now allows you to use your Android phone to play videos on Google TV. These updates will be rolling out to LG TVs with Google TV over the following weeks and a rollout to other “second generation hardware” in the coming months.
If you have a first generation Google TV though, you won’t be getting voice search or PrimeTime, just the YouTube update which is sure to annoy some users. What do you think? Is this a good update or is Google still way behind?
Here’s a video below giving a brief glimpse at the new features:
