Earlier this week despite the cancelling of Google’s official event in New York City due to Hurricane Sandy, the tech giant went ahead and announced several new devices anyways, two of the biggest being the introduction of 3G in the Nexus 7 and the much buzzed about Nexus 4 made by LG.
One thing that’s been a big criticism for the Nexus 4 is the fact that it has no 4G LTE which means, at least for those in the US, using it on Verizon for example is out of the question. This has raised many questions as to why Google made this move, but it all seems to point to the price. After all, the 16GB model unlocked will run you just $349 which is unheard of for a quad-core phone.
Telstra who is in the great country of Australia, has announced, to the disappointment of some customers, that they will not be stocking the Nexus 4 or Nexus 7 3G. Why? The carrier wants to focus more on 4G LTE powered devices and unfortunately, neither the phone or tablet meet this criteria.
This is likely a smart move overall considering their customers want fast speeds on their devices and while the Nexus 4 or Nexus 7 3G bring blazing fast specs, when on the go, they lack the speed.
Telstra wasn’t the only carrier to say they weren’t stocking either device. Vodafone came out on Twitter yesterday and specifically said they’ve decided against stocking the Nexus 4. The lack of 4G LTE may be a bad sign for the Nexus 4 in particular and will definitely impact sales. How much, we don’t know just yet, but so far the lack of it is the biggest complaint thus far.
