According to Google: These are the Best Games of 2012

As they’ve done with apps, Google has taken on the challenge of putting together a list of the best games of 2012. The app list seemed to be a little safe and it looks like their list of games is no different. Having said that, as you go through the list, you’ll see that there are a number of surprises in this list, the type of games you wouldn’t think to make it into a list like this. Having said that, I’m not too big on my mobile gaming as I keep to the PC a lot more. That’s where you guys come in! This is Google’s list but, what we really want to know is what you’re favorite game of 2012 has been!

We’re not sure if this is the way Google intended them to be ranked but, we’re going to give it a go anyway!

12. NAUGHT

Not only does NAUGHT feature a unique graphical style but it’s also one of the few games out there that utilizes the accelerometers and gyroscopes we all seem to be carrying in our pockets. If you’re fed up of on-screen controls and you’re great with touchscreens give this a go and experience something new in gaming.

11. Subway Surfers

Subway Surfers is one of those games that has you play with your phone or tablet in portrait mode, which sounds a little strange but once you play it you’ll understand why. This is a fun little platformer and a great one to pick up and play whenever you like.

10. Hamlet

To play or not to play? Well, if you like funny games and you’re one for a familiar story with a new twist then yes, you should play Hamlet. It’s a quirky game indeed and if you’re looking for something different, give this one a go.

9. Need for Speed: Most Wanted

We’re surprised to see this so low down on the list but, perhaps Google feel this is too much of a conventional title to be anything more exciting. You all know how these Need for Speed games work by now, right?

8. ShadowGun: Deadzone

Another surprise for being so far up this list is Shadowgun: Deadzone. Not only is the game brilliant on its own but when you factor in online multiplayer and you’ve got one killer title on your hands. There’s so much to love about Shadowgun and now that it’s finally brought us proper multiplayer, it’s hard to love this latest in their line-up.

7. Funky Smugglers

Sometimes a game comes along that’s just down right fun, nothing else to it, just pure fun. Funky Smugglers is definitely a fun game. You’ve got to use the X-Ray scanner at Airports to uncover contraband underneath the funky clothing passengers are wearing. Just play it, you’ll love it.

6. Strikefleet Omega

This is sort of a throwback to the old days of shooters where everything was in space and an upgrade wasn’t a new sight or grip, it was more armor or lasers for your space ship. This has some good-looking graphics and a lot of charm to boot.

5. Devil’s Attorney

Unique graphics and gameplay that will have you thinking is the aim of the game here and it all comes together to make a great game. Devil’s Attorney is one of those mobile games where you might need to sit down and allot yourself some time to fully enjoy. It’s a game that’s perfect for a long flight.

4. Zoo Keeper Battle

Puzzles is what Zoo Keeper has to offer you and in this latest installment of the series, you’ll be pitted against other players to keep things fresh. Honestly, I don’t know how anyone could get bored with these games but I’m sure these types of games aren’t for everyone. Give it a go if you miss your Game Boy and Tetris, like I do, everyday.

3. Granny Smith

One of the most popular games to come out this year, it’s no surprise that it’s ended up on Google’s list. With good-looking graphics and some ridiculous stunts, Granny Smith is certainly a game to keep you entertained. More than likely because it’s a boat load of crazy fun.

2. Nun Attack

Often, action games can take themselves far too seriously but with Nun Attack, the balance of tongue-in-cheek comedy and awesome action is very much intact. If ever there was a game to not take itself seriously, Nun Attack was that game. Fantastic fun at a very agreeable price, indeed.

1. The Bard’s Tale

The game that Google seems to think the best game of 2012 is the Bard’s Tale and we can see why Google think something like this deserves the top spot. With incredible graphics and a true-RPG style to it, not a lot of Android titles can claim to look this good. There’s a lot to love about this game and if you haven’t given it a go yet, now is a good time as they’re having a sale to celebrate the fact we’re all standing in the wake of 12/21/12 – just make sure you have lots of storage available.
