Samsung Galaxy SII users across Europe are ready for the update to Jelly Bean, but it looks like Samsung isn’t ready to commit. Starting back in early October, Samsung Sweden let it slip that they were preparing to roll out 4.1.X to Galaxy SII users sometime in November of 2012, then that date was pushed back to December, and finally to sometime in 2013. Samsung Sweden is still saying early 2013, January even, but their track record on this issue makes that a dubious claim at best. Samsung isn’t being particularly open about the reason for the delay, but there are some likely culprits making the rounds around the rumor mill.
Recently, an issue was raised about an exploit problem with the Exynos processors in Galaxy devices, and speculation is swirling as to the possibility that resources being diverted to fixing this problem is the root cause of the current delay of the update. It’s possible that users will see two updates back-to-back, one to fix the exploit issue followed by another update to Jelly Bean.
An even bigger headache for users comes from the fact that the OS update is ready to go for most users, but Samsung is refusing to roll it out until all of Europe is ready to receive Jelly Bean goodness. Until that time, users have been driven to ROM’s and non-official updates to quench their thirst for new features and better performance. Galaxy Note users are in the same boat as well, as Samsung refuses to roll out their update until all parts of Europe are ready for reception.
Users have become increasingly more vocal about their displeasure with the current state of updates for many Samsung users. Some have complained that the company is putting an unfair amount of effort into keeping the Galaxy SIII updated, while leaving their older cousins in the dust only to be updated when it’s convenient. Others wait patiently for a stable and secure update, but voice concern over the lack of official information coming from Samsung, believing that the company should be more up-front and open with the update process.
What about you? Are you a Samsung user waiting for an update? Have you already switched to a ROM or will you wait for the official update?
