Gmail Version 4.2 With Swipe Features and Pinch To Zoom Now In Google Play

The new Gmail app that shipped with Android 4.2 on the Nexus 4 and 10 is now available in the Google Play Store for anyone on Android 4.0+.  Version 4.2.1 brings a number of new features that make the already top-notch Android Gmail experience that much better. For starters emails can now be set to re-size automatically in the correct format so they are not cut off forcing you to switch to landscape to view the full message. The Google Play music email shown above is notorious for being to large to display correctly before this update.

Along with the automatic formatting of large messages the long overdue pinch to zoom feature has been included as well making any display issues a thing of the past. Additionally the location of attachment has been moved to its natural location at the bottom of emails to bring it more in line with the desktop view. If you look at the left picture above the image attachments are now much larger thumbnails and if you were to click one it brings up the full image and you can swipe through all of the images attached.

The most simple addition for me has been the most useful and that is the swiping functionality. Now you can simply swipe away a message just like you would for notifications in Android 4+, and set them to be either automatically archived or deleted. This is a feature that will help you power through an inbox in no time.

As you can see Google continues to improve upon their Android Gmail experience which is why it remains the best mobile email experience available. Emails now look better and are easier to keep in check. If you want to get in on the action check out the link below.
