We are back once again, pinning two of the best phones on the market right now against each other. In one corner we’ve got the Motorola Droid Razr HD, with it’s kevlar back, and nearly stock Android build. And in the other corner we’ve got the beast, the Galaxy Note 2. Including it’s 5.5″ display, S Pen and Quad-Core Exynos processor. This is going to be an all out fight. So join us and see who comes out on top in this battle between two of Verizon’s top Android phones right now.
Specifications
Motorola Droid Razr HD
So the Motorola Droid Razr HD, that’s quite a mouthful. Throughout the rest of this war we will just refer to it as the Razr HD. It’s packing a industry-standard 4.7-inch display along with a kevlar back. It’s powered by a massive 2530mAh battery and a dual-core Snapdragon processor. So it’s not the fastest thing out there. But it will probably last you the longest out of all the other devices out there. It’s a huge improvement over the original Razr which hit Verizon last year. On the software side, the device launched with Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich, and that has now been upgraded to Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean. Motorola has really been working hard to update their devices much faster since Google completed their acquisition of the manufacturer.
Pros:
- Huge battery; while it’s not the largest, it’ll still last you around a full day or more even on LTE
- Nearly stock Android; Motorola’s new skin is not obtrusive at all. In fact it’s almost like stock Android in many ways with just a few customizations.
- Price; for $199 it’s not a bad price at all
Cons:
- Kevlar back; okay maybe not a con, but it is important to tell you that it won’t stop a bullet from going through the device
- Only available on Verizon
- Bootloader is locked tighter than anything you’ve ever seen
Samsung Galaxy Note 2
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2. This thing is a beast, I currently have it in for review (which will be up next week) and man is it huge. The Galaxy Note 2 is a great device, but I think it’s more geared towards those that are into graphic design, and drawing. More specifically the artsy type. Especially with the S Pen. The Note 2 launched with Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean and is currently available on all the major US carriers. But it’s only available in the 16GB version here in the US. The Note 2 has a massive 3100mAh battery to power that huge 5.5″ display. And I must say it does a great job powering that display and the rest of the device.
Pros:
- The Display; yes it’s 5.5 inches. But it is great for multimedia, especially YouTube, Netflix and taking pictures
- The Battery; 3100mAh is a massive battery. And yet it makes the Note 2 last forever and a day.
- Expandable storage up to 64GB in addition to the 16GB on board. Giving you up to 80GB total storage.
Cons:
- The Note 2 may be to large for some people. The size does have a learning curve to it, once you use it for a bit you’ll get used to it and love it.
- Home button branding. Of course Verizon has decided to brand the home button on their Galaxy Note 2 making this beautiful device a bit ugly.
Winner…
This is a hard one. But I’ll have to go with the Note 2 for the win. The Galaxy Note 2 can do everything the Razr HD can do and much more. Battery life between the two are almost the same, the Note 2 has a much more powerful processor and twice the RAM as the Razr HD. So that Galaxy Note 2 wins this round. But for most of you, the decision will probably be based on the price. Both of these devices are powerful and great choices. So it’ll all be up to your own personal preference.
