For some time now, we’ve been hearing a lot about this Full HD phone from China and the specs have been pretty impressive. The Droid DNA certainly turned heads when it launched with its Full HD display and quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU. However, the Droid DNA is the latest in a long line of exclusives only for Verizon, something I’m sure annoys HTC fans on AT&T and other networks. Personally, I don’t see how HTC think carrier exclusivity helps anybody else apart from the carrier involved – it certainly doesn’t do anything for their brand.
The Oppo Find 5 however, is a phone that’s coming from China and with that, no ties to the US Wireless Market. This has always been a problem with Chinese phones, a lot of them are packing some of the best hardware in the business right now but, they very rarely make it to the US and that makes it tricky for us to report on them. We want to bring you news on phones from all over the place – especially when they’re as awesome as the Find 5 – but what’s the point in telling you about a phone you can’t buy? Well, we have some awesome news, the Oppo Find 5 is coming to the US as an unlocked phone for $499!
That’s right, for the first time you can actually buy a phone from China and use it in the US, of course, nobody really knows what the phone’s build is like but it can’t be that bad – not even Chinese companies make all this noise about a cheapo phone. If you’ve been waiting for a Full HD device and dread the idea of having to go back to Verizon then the Find 5 could well be your best choice. Unfortunately, they’ll be no LTE but, it will be compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile’s 3G. Which is a bummer if you’re on ma bell and pretty good if you live in a good area for the magenta carrier.
If you’ve forgotten just what is going to be in the Find 5 then take a look at the specs below:
- Full HD LCD Display 1920 x 1080 – 440 ppi
- Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro – the same CPU that’s in the Droid DNA and Nexus 4
- 2GB of RAM
- 16GB of Onboard storage
- Dual SIM, one for GSM and the other for GSM with 3G
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
All in all, this is a really good phone and it’s good to see that it’ll soon be available in the States, I’m hoping that it’ll make it’s way to the UK but, again, I’m not going to hold my breath by any means.
