Acer's Budget Tablet, Iconia B1 Now Available in Singapore and Indonesia for $160

Earlier this month, Acer officially announced their Iconia B1 tablet. It’s their answer to the cheap, 7-inch tablet market. Although it’s not quite as highly spec’d as the Nexus 7, it is quite a bit cheaper. In Singapore the Iconia B1 will be selling for S$199 ($160 US) whereas the Nexus 7 is S$349, and once the special promotion is over, the price will jump up to $165. But if you’re looking for a cheap e-reader or even a full tablet, this Acer tab will handle just about anything you throw at it.

Just as a reminder, here are the specs for the Iconia B1:

  • 7-inch, 1024×600 resolution display
  • 8/16GB internal storage; Expandable via Micro SD card
  • 512MB of RAM
  • VGA front-facing camera
  • Dual-core 1.2GHz processor
  • Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean
  • 2710mAh battery

So as you can tell, it’s not the top of the line tablet we all want, but for the price it’s a pretty good buy. The Iconia B1 is also available in India now and it’s selling for Rs 7,999 ($150 US). If you’re in Europe, Middle East and Africa, you’ll be able to grab the Iconia B1 later this month for â‚¬119.

If you’re in a region where the Nexus 7 isn’t available, and you still want a cheap 7-inch tablet, but not one from one of those cheap Chinese manufacturers, this is a great one to pick up. It is Acer, so they have a bit more of a track record than most of the other super cheap tablets out there. But remember, the ASUS MeMO Pad, and a few others should be coming out soon too. Including that rumored Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, that’s supposedly going to cost $150.
