Rumor: Samsung Working on 7-inch $150 Tablet; Galaxy Note 8.0 Pricing at $250-300

The rumors just keep flying don’t they? It’s another day, and another set of rumors for the Galaxy Note 8.0. Yesterday, we saw the spec list for this device, and on Monday, Samsung’s VP JK Shin, just about confirmed the device for Mobile World Congress. Now we have some new information on pricing of the Galaxy Note 8.0.

This new member of the Galaxy Note family is due to be announced at Mobile World Congress next month in Barcelona, which is ironic because that’s where the Galaxy Note 10.1 was announced last year. The launch date is said to be in March. And now according to Digitimes, they have a report coming from the usual “industry sources”, the stylus-equipped tablet is expected to sell for a reasonable $250-300. Not bad. That puts this device in the price range of a lot more people, and more importantly, between the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10.

Of course it’s obvious that Samsung is looking to undercut Apple in this 7-8-inch tablet market. the iPad mini which is 7.9-inches costs anywhere from $329-659 depending configuration and LTE. And since Samsung makes just about every part that’ll be going into the Note 8.0, they could really sell this thing cheap and still make a decent profit on the device. And according to the leaked specs on the roadmap yesterday, the Galaxy Note 8.0 is going to have:

  • 8-inch 1280×800 LCD Display
  • quad-core 1.6GHz processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 4600mAh battery
  • 16/32GB configurations; Expandable via micro SD card
  • Android 4.2

Now the second half of this rumor, Samsung is said to be working on a Nexus 7 competitor as well. We’ve already seen a ton of 7-inch Android tablets in the $200 price range, including the Acer Iconia B1, and the ASUS MeMO Pad ME172V. Now it looks like Samsung is getting ready to join in. Reports suggest that their 7-inch tablet will cost between $149-199 depending on the memory configuration. Currently, details are very scarce, but we should know more in the next few days at the rate these rumors are flying around. Could this be the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0?

Looks like Samsung is truly trying to take over both the phone and tablet market right now. Would you buy the Galaxy Note 8.0 if it was priced between $250-300? Let us know in the comments below.
