So, you want a Chromebook, but you don’t want an Acer or Samsung laptop, or they feel to flimsy or poorly made? Well here’s something you might like. According to this leaked spec sheet. HP is looking to jump into the Chromebook game with a 14-inch laptop. A newly discovered PDF listing has all the details you need to know about this upcoming Pavilion Chromebook. Keep in mind it hasn’t been announced yet, but it most likely will be soon. Here are some of the specs:
- 14-inch 1366×768 display
- 1.1GHz Celeron processor
- 2GB of RAM
- 16GB solid state drive
So the specs are relatively similar to the Acer and Samsung Chromebooks currently on the market, but the display is much bigger than the 11.6-inch Chromebooks out there. It’ll be interesting to see how light this Chromebook is since its a few inches larger than the Acer and Samsung offerings. As you know, the first Chromebooks were made by Acer and Samsung and were launched at Google I/O in May of 2011, and Lenovo jumped on the Chrome bandwagon in early 2013 with their Thinkpad Chromebook. Now we’ve got HP coming aboard. It’s nice to see more OEM’s coming to the Chromebook market. Makes more choices for the consumer.
Google’s Chrome OS is known for being, basically just a browser. I actually just grabbed the Samsung Chromebook last week, and I’ve been using it for a few days and so far I really like it. Since I do almost all my work in the browser, it works great and is really light-weight. But I urge you, before you buy the HP or any other Chromebook thinking it can replace your laptop, do some research. Since it isn’t a full OS, like Windows, Linux or Mac OS, you’ll definitely need to see if you can survive your daily tasks with a Chromebook.
So who’s thinking about selling their Acer or Samsung Chromebook for this HP one? I’m really considering it because, well I’m an HP fan. I love HP’s quality, but I’ll have to wait and see how it fares and how high or low its priced. We’ll be sure to keep you posted with all the details as soon as we find them out.
