LG Optimus G Set for another Round of Releases

LG is looking to sell another million units of its latest flagship device, the LG Optimus G. We did announce earlier that the LG Optimus G Pro is officially in the works and has been announced through Korean media outlets by LG. This release of the earlier version is most likely a good sign that we will not see an official release of the pro version of the handset for quite some time now.

The Optimus G was first released in Korea last year followed in the United States with a pair of slightly differing versions of the handset. The Sprint version in the United States came with a 13MP camera on the back while the version that is sold by AT&T only had an 8MP shooter on its back-side. The Optimus G was also originally sold in both Canada and Japan in its first round of releases.

The handset will come to 50 new markets with this latest release starting with Singapore and then being released in other markets around the world. The release will be mainly to locations that support LTE connectivity, which will include the United Kingdom and European markets.

The Optimus G has been a pretty successful device for LG in the few months that it has been out and LG recently announced that the handset has now sold over one-million units between the four locations where it has already been on sale. This device though, by now, is getting to be an aged gadget spec-wise, and with the likes of Samsung, HTC, and even Huawei and ZTE releasing top of the line devices with full HD 1080P displays and updated processors, this may be a good time for LG to step up its game and release something spectacular instead of focusing on releasing a last-years device.

The Optimus G was released in conjunction with the LG Nexus 4 and is pretty much an identical device as far as the internal components of the handset go. One key difference between the two, at least for the initial release, is that the Optimus G was released running Android version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but has since been updated to version 4.1 Jelly Bean and will most likely see at least one more update to 4.2 and may even see Key Lime Pie by the end of its life.
