Been looking for a 10-inch tablet on a tight budget? Perhaps this new offering from Polaroid could be the answer. The Polaroid M10 is a new tablet that will be released sometime in spring 2013. It was announced at CES this week, alongside a 7-inch tablet, the Polaroid M7, both of which will run Android 4.1.
Here are the specs:
- 10-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1,280 x 800
- Quad-Core Processor
- 5-megapixel rear camera / 2-megapixel front-facing camera (higher than most other smartphones/tablets)
- 16GB of internal storage with expandable storage.
- HDMI connectivity
The $229 price point is great in my opinion. First time tablet buyers will be more inclined to give it a try, given the low price. The M10 and the M7 have the same resolution, which is on par with competition for the 7-inch, but that isn’t the case in the 10-inch segment. The Nexus 10 has a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600, which is stunning, but it also costs double what the M10 does. If you’re someone who always needs to have the latest and greatest gadgets, then this device most probably won’t appeal to you. Anyone else however, it would be very appealing to.
The M10 has a slightly higher-rated front facing camera, compared to the competition, though perhaps that is to be expected since Polaroid is known predominantly in the camera market. People may argue that the quality of the front-facing camera does not matter as much as the rear camera. But in my opinion and experience, not too many people use their 10-inch tablets to take pictures, but they do use them to have video chats with friends/family, so the higher quality camera certainly does help.
I think that more manufacturers should release budget friendly tablets, because first time buyers, and people who are just on a tight budget would be able to purchase them. The nexus 7 was a perfect example, though it was a smaller screen, and some people just prefer the larger 10-inch screen, it was still nicely packaged and priced, and it sold very well. Many details have still not been released on the M10 as of yet, but as soon as it is, you can count on Android Headlines to inform you about it.
