Samsung's Galaxy Pop Detailed in South Korea

Now isn’t this a bizarre name for a phone? Samsung has had some weird names for phones before like the Galaxy Music, and many other low-mid range devices that never hit the US. But it looks like those that are in South Korea will be introduced to the Samsung Galaxy Pop again. This is a phone with a design that resembles the Galaxy Premier, but it also shares some similarities with the Galaxy S3.

Other than this design, the Galaxy Pop SHV-E220S could very well be known as the Galaxy S3 “Midi”. It does still sport a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD display like the Galaxy Premier, but the phone is powered by the powerful Exynos 4412, quad-core 1.4GHz processor. Here’s what the rest of the specs look like:

  • 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD display
  • 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos 4412 processor
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 8GB internal storage; expandable via microSD card slot
  • 8MP rear-facing camera; 1.9MP front-facing camera
  • Android 4.1.2, with Touchwiz
  • 2100mAh battery
  • WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC

So far there’s no word on if or when the device will be available internationally. But the phone is reported to make its debut on SK Telecom in South Korea. But we’re holding out some hope that we’ll get confirmation on this device coming to other markets through out the world. As this would be a great device for those not  looking for a device much bigger than the Galaxy Nexus. Especially where manufacturers have no idea where the line between tablet and phone are anymore. It’s a good looking device, and has some nice looking specs. Although it doesn’t have 2GB of RAM, it should still fly with just about anything and everything you throw at it. Only downside is that it’s still on Android 4.1.2, I would have loved to see Android 4.2 on this Galaxy Pop device.
