Yesterday we saw a new budget Huawei phone get pictured for China Mobile, the Huawei G520. It was a great looking device for just $225. And last week at CES, ZTE introduced us to the nice looking Grand S. Now ZTE has a budget device heading to China Mobile, it’s a bit more than the Huawei device pictured yesterday, but not by much.
This new ZTE U956 device has some nice specs for a budget priced device as well:
- 5-inch 720p HD display
- Quad-Core Mediatek MT6589 processor
- 8MP rear-facing camera
So far that’s all the specs we know about this new device. But getting a 5-inch 720p display for $242? That’s almost unheard of. Especially with a quad-core processor. While it is a MediaTek processor, most of you probably haven’t heard of them, it’s no slouch. This processor is being used in that Huawei G520 and the new Acer Iconia B1 tablet that was announced last week.
While the ZTE U956 doesn’t have the 1080p glory of the Grand S, it’s still looking like a great device. For comparison, here are the specs of the ZTE Grand S, announced last week:
- 5-inch Full HD 1080p display
- 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 pro processor
- 13MP rear-facing camera; 2MP front-facing camera
- 2GB of RAM
- 16GB internal storage; expandable via micro SD card
- 1780mAh battery
- Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean
- 6.9mm thin
- Dolby Digital Surround Sound
So quite a big difference between the two devices, but I’m sure the Grand S won’t be near $242 in pricing. Another thing to think about before buying this device is updates. Manufacturers like Huawei and ZTE almost never push out updates to their devices. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of either of them pushing a new version of Android to their present devices, and if they are looking to bring some devices to the US and push them, they are going to need to change that.
Anyone interested in this device from ZTE? It should be available soon on China Mobile, and hopefully it’ll make it to other parts of the world soon. Let us know in the comments below if you’re going to grab this device.
