So you don’t like the keyboard on your new Android phone or tablet. Well don’t go returning your device. There are plenty of Keyboard apps on the Play Store that you can install. There is also a way to install apps that are not found in the Play Store. Today, we’ll be covering both of these in two seperate sections of this guide. We also have a video in case you get lost. Let’s start out with sideloading apps.

How to sideload apps onto your Android device
1. Turn on and unlock your phone or tablet
2. Go into Settings
3. Tap on Security
4. Check ‘Unknown Sources’
5. Tap ‘OK’ on the confirmation box
6. Now go to the .apk file you want to install (.apk is the extension of the file you want to install)
7. Tap Install
8. You’re done.
How to install a Third-Party Keyboard
1. Go to the Play Store
2. Search for the keyboard you wish to install (i.e. Swiftkey, Swype, etc.)
3. Tap Install and Accept & Download
4. Once downloaded, configure the settings to your choosing.
5. You’re all set.
It’s just that easy to install beta apps that you might try from XDA, or other sites that are not found in the Play Store. And it’s that easy to install a third-party keyboard. Very similar to installing a new launcher.
