We first saw these tablets at CES last month in Vegas, the Archos Platinum line of tablets has now officially been announced and given release dates and pricing. This range of devices includes the 80,97, and 116. So as you probably have already figured out, they will range from 8-11.6 inches for display size. But they will all pretty much have the same specs. Which are….
- High-Definition IPS Display
- Quad-core CPU clocked at 1.2GHz with 8-core GPU and 1080p video decoding
- 2GB of RAM
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
We have the Archos 80 Platinum and as you probably figured out, it’s an 8-inch tablet with a 1024×768 resolution display and will cost $199 and will be available this month. Then there’s the 116 which is an 11.6-inch tablet with a 1920×1080 resolution display but won’t be available until April and will be $349. I gotta say, that’s not bad for a 1080p display on an 11.6-inch tablet. Then we have the 97 which is a 9.7-inch tablet that has the best resolution of them all. It features a 2048×1536 resolution which will be available this month as well and cost just $299.
So Archos seems to have a pretty decent line of tablets coming this month and the 11.6-inch one coming in April. Pricing isn’t bad either, let’s just hope the developer support is there. If not, you’ll probably be stuck on Android 4.1 forever. Which would really suck, since it’s already a 7-month old OS, and Android 5.0 is right around the corner. Then there’s the 9.7-inch Platinum tablet that might be able to give the Nexus 10 a run for it’s money, at least on the display. Probably not with the processor or software though.
So is anyone interested in any of these Archos Platinum tablets? I’m actually pretty interested in the 97 Platinum and the 116 Platinum tablets, those seem to have some pretty nice looking displays. But like I said already, the only down side is going to be support for these tablets. Hopefully we’ll see Archos sending out updates for these tablets soon after release for Android 4.2.
