After we saw LG’s cinematic/ artsy trailer for its upcoming presentation at MWC in Barcelona next week we thought we had seen the most cryptic teaser video that MWC 2013 had to offer. We were wrong. Today ASUS released a video that is so far removed from providing any actual information about a device, it could easily be a trailer for Independence Day 2. The video below is about 30 seconds long and shows a massive UFO moving over Barcelona and landing on the famous Sagrada Familia cathedral. This is obviously meant to bring an aura of mystery to the hype ASUS is attempting to build as MWC gets closer and closer. And they obviously took their time to make something cool here. But this doesn’t actually give us any information about what we should expect from the Taiwanese OEM.
The only thing that even refers to a product is the phrase “Ultimate craftsmanship, today.” ASUS products like the Transformer Infinity and the Zenbook have certainly proven that ASUS can turn out top-quality devices when it wants to. But most of the rumors surrounding what we should expect from Asus next week have revolved around the Fonepad, the Memo line, and other budget-friendly devices. If ASUS is about to try to sell us on “ultimate craftsmanship” when referring to a Nexus 7 clone that sells for $150 mostly in developing countries, we might be in for some disappointment next week. But its possible that Asus has some big news coming up. Perhaps we will see a Padphone 3 (oh please God, let it come to the US!). Can you imagine an LTE Padphone 3 on Verizon? We just got chills writing that last sentence. It’s also possible that we will see an update to the Transformer Infinity or something along those lines.
Only time will tell, but if ASUS is taking the time to make this teaser video and claim unearthly quality, they had better deliver something amazing in the near future. Next week we will be bringing you everything MWC has to offer as it happens, what announcements are you anticipating the most? Check out the video below. If you listen closely you can hear a voice at the very beginning saying “Wait, is that a large metallic object floating across the sky?” Yup, you nailed it, ASUS marketing team. That is exactly how people would react to a massive UFO floating over their city. Let us know what you think of Asus’ voice actors in the comments section below.
