While we’re all pretty excited to get more information on the inner workings of Google’s Glass, there’s one thing we were holding out on more, than anything else. Pricing and availability. There’s a lot of excitement swirling around this project from Google and it’s no surprise that Google are thinking to get this thing out there as soon as possible. We know that developers are going to be able to get their hands on a pair, to the tune of $1,500 but, not all of us are developers and we’re all raring to get a chance to play with a pair for ourselves.
The Verge has it on good authority after their own Joshua Topolsky got to spend some quality time with Google Glass at the search giant’s NYC headquarters, that the device will cost less than $1,500 to consumers. We’ve heard a lot about Google Glass in just a short time span, we’ve seen more photos, even Mark Zuckerburg is getting in on the action and now – for the first time – we have something close to a concrete launch date for the awesome new product. Last May, Brin himself said that “I have some hopes to maybe get it out sometime next year.” but, this is a little more concrete than that it certainly looks like Google has been making some real progress on Google Glass since their unveil at last year’s I/O conference.
$1,500 is a hefty price tag and, as yesterday’s Chromebook Pixel proved, Google aren’t afraid of putting premium products out there. The $1,500 price tag will apparently get you a “fully polished” product, which is something pretty important when you’re handing over that much money for a piece of technology. With a price like that, we might not be seeing New York – or any other large city – flooded with Google Glass just yet but, that’s a good price for something as advanced as this.
Even if Geordie LaForge thinks these things are going to be a downgrade it’s nice to know that they might be available for Christmas. Now, who of you out there are ready to drop $1,500 on a pair of Project Glass?
