Android 4.2.2 is kinda official, but not quite. It’s rolling out to the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10. We haven’t heard any reports of it hitting the Nexus 4 yet, but we are sure it’s coming. We’ve also posted some manual links, so you can download and update your device yourself. All day long, we’ve been playing with the new code, and finding tid bits of new features. Including the new notifications for downloads, new ADB security feature, and a few bug fixes. but now we’ve got the full changelog.
So here’s what folks are seeing now, with Android 4.2:
- USB Debugging Whitelist: We talked about this one earlier. So we aren’t going to go into to much detail here. But it prevents thieves from accessing your data if your device is stolen.
- New Download Notifications: This one we also wrote about earlier, and the only changes to notifications are downloads.
- Quick Settings: A few changes to quick settings, which you probably didn’t notice. But when you’re long-pressing on the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth icon, you can then toggle it on or off instead of going to the settings.
- New Sounds for Wireless Charging: There are now some new sounds for wireless charging initiating and low battery alert. Now Users will hear a sound when the device is put on a wireless charging mat, or the wireless charging orb which hit the Play Store yesterday.
- Removed option to show all calls in the phone apps’ call list
- Gallery: New animation which allows for faster animation.
So that’s everything users have noticed so far in this new update. This doesn’t include any bug fixes. But we have been told by users that the Bluetooth audio streaming issue is fixed. Also the Wi-Fi bug that plagued many Nexus devices on Android 4.2.1 seems to have been fixed, at least on my Nexus 7.
