LG’s 2013 line of smartphones is figuring to be one of if not the major story of Mobile World Congress next week in Barcelona. So far the strategy has been to send out hints and leaks of their upcoming devices in an attempt to stay in the headlines every day, and clearly it’s working.
So far here is what we know for sure. There will be a refresh of the Optimus G Pro this time with a 5.5 inch 1080p screen, a quad core 1.7 Ghz S4 Pro processor, 13 MP camera, and 32 GB internal storage. Additionally the manufacturer will also be showing off the second generation of their budget or entry level L series which will include The L3 II, The L5 II, and The L7 II.
That leads us to yesterday’s video teaser which highlighted certain letters as a red line crossed over a map of the world. The letters were “L” for style, “G” for greatness, “V” for view and “F” for freedom. Looking deeper into this video we can speculate that the L is for the L series, The G for the Optimus G, and of course the V for the Optimus Vu. Those assumptions are the obvious ones though, but what about that F?
LG hasn’t had an F series before but they actually have talked about it. During their last earnings call they actually outright told anyone who was paying attention at the time that this F series was coming soon:
“Sales of premium LTE smartphones such as Optimus G and Vu:2 increased in the fourth quarter, as did the L-series and Google Nexus 4. With more European and emerging markets introducing LTE services this year, LG plans to increase smartphone revenues and market share by launching follow-up devices to Optimus G and the L-series as well as the new F-series.” (emphasis mine)
Right now all that we have are pictures of two devices from the F line, The F7 and the F5, courtesy of evleaks. We don’t know any specs as of yet but the way LG has been doing things lately odds are we will be getting them some time before the weekend. Especially the way they have been leaking things.
