Ouya Promising That Developers Will See A Quick Approval Process

The Ouya Android gaming system has been a hot topic of discussion since it was announced back in July, but now with the March launch date fast approaching things are really heating up. We’ve seen the news that the gaming console will be sold at places like Gamestop, Best Buy, Target, and Amazon as soon as this June, obviously a major coup for the kickstarter project. Then there was the proclamation from  CEO Julie Uhrman saying that they will be producing a new Ouya every year. But ultimately the biggest factor that can make or break any gaming system is the number and quality of game titles.

Well if it’s game titles you are looking for it appears that the Ouya team will have you covered. Not only did they just recently hold a “game jam” which netted a total 166 titles in ten short days, but they also got the game studio Double Fine to support the Ouya and bringing with it the Double Fine Adventure and Rob Gilbert’s The Cave.

Now for those of you out there who would like to get your game onto the $99 Ouya there was some good news today coming out of the DICE summit, which is being held right now in Las Vegas, Nevada. That’s where The CEO promised a quick approval process for developers and their submitted games. She went on to say “It’s similar to mobile: they’ll submit their games, and we’ll review for intellectual property infringement, and malware, and excessive pornography. But ultimately it’s a quick review and you’re in the storefront in one capacity or another.” The major question here is will it be like which mobile? The Google Play Store has no approval process to speak of and The Apple App Store is notoriously slow. We can assume it’s the former though, with the Ouya being an Android device and all.

Of course Ouya is still a startup and they do have some kinks to iron out, however developers do have the ability to upload their titles right now. Also Uhrman expects the review and approval process should be finalized by the “middle to the end of this month.”

Have any of you sent in a game? We’d love to know how your experience was.
