Sony Xperia Z Charging Dock 'Coming Soon' for £24.90

Early Sunday morning a nifty little charging dock for the Sony Xperia Z showed up in the Xperia UK store. If you’re the type that doesn’t like to bother with charging ports and their respective flaps, then this dock is just for you! It charges the Xperia Z via two metal pins that are conveniently located on the side of the handset (landscape mode).

The Xperia Z will be situated in a way that you can still use the phone while it’s docked and charging. In fact, the official Sony narrative teases that you can still “browse the menus and view content without removing your phone.” As one would expect, you can also “see and hear when a call or message comes in.”

We’ve learned that the dock is going to be bundled with the Xperia Z in select markets. Currently, we know the UK will not be seeing the dock bundled with the handset, which means UK owners are going to have to get it separately. Sony has listed the charging dock (Model DK26) for £24.90 ($39 US).

I’m sure you would like to know a little more about the dock itself, so here’s the info. It’s going to be available in three different colors (black, purple and white) and weighs approximately 55 grams total. As far as I can tell there aren’t any advanced features, like additional ports or audio connections, but it may turn out to have some. I wouldn’t bet my money on it though.

The listing blatantly states “Note! Charger not included.” That means you’ll have to use the existing Xperia Z charger to connect to this thing. It’s too bad it won’t ship with extra wires because it’s always convenient to have more than one charger lying around. I for one, love to have an extra travel charger handy for when I’m going somewhere outside my house, that way if I forget it, I still have a backup at home.

The dock is not actually available right now, considering it’s listed as “coming soon,” but I’m willing to bet that it will be available shortly after release of the Xperia Z. I mean, it only makes sense, right?

The Xperia Z is a 5-inch quad-core packing monster, which also happens to be rocking a full 1920 x 1080 HD display. Along with the aforementioned quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor, it’s also got an Adreno 320 GPU for mobile gaming. Just for reference, I’ve included the full list of specs below, but I’m sure if you’re already planning on getting one of these babies, and the dock, you probably already know what it’s working with.
