Summary: Samsung has announced its latest version of SmartThings, which now includes Samsung Health integration, updated Matter support, and a variety of other enhancements to improve your living space.
Samsung is pushing out its latest version of SmartThings, with the update incorporating things like Samsung Health integration for improved wellness and sleep. SmartThings is one of the more comprehensive smart home platforms. It can sync with a wide (almost vast) variety of different smart home products, allowing the user to set up automatic adjustments for everything from lights to washing machines.
Today’s update has a big focus on the Samsung Health integration, but it includes several other improvements. For instance, the platform will now support weekly, monthly, and annual automation routines powered by AI. Say you want SmartThings to automatically dim the lights for date night every week, it can do that in the latest version.
It will also now be possible to set entertainment preferences within automation routines. Everyone has their favorite shows, and some may have preferred times to watch them. Now, you can use SmartThings to have those programs turn on at set times. You will need a 2025 Samsung TV with Samsung TV Plus for this work, though.
Samsung Health integration in SmartThings allows for the auto-adjustment of home environments
As part of today’s new update, Samsung Health integration is making it easier for people to utilize SmartThings to improve their sleep. Specifically, the Samsung Health integration enables the auto-adjustment of home environments based on sleep and wake times.
Like the entertainment preferences, the sleep and wake time adjustments have a requirement. Users need to be wearing either a Galaxy Ring or a Galaxy Watch. When paired with these devices, SmartThings automation routines can turn lights on or off when you wake up or go to sleep.
Another prerequisite is that users will need a Galaxy smartphone running on One UI 7.0 or later. As the new auto adjustment of environments works off of the Sleep Environment Report, which requires One UI 7.0 or later. So, this feature will be limited to Samsung’s newest devices for the moment.
SmartThings now lets you broadcast voice messages across speakers
Another new feature coming with the latest SmartThings update is the ability to broadcast voice messages. You know those cool intercom systems that some people have installed in their homes? You can essentially use your speakers for the same purpose. With the latest version of SmartThings, you can send a voice message to any SmartThings-connected speaker in the home.
This can be done from the SmartThings app as well. Making it possible to send messages to your partner, friends, or kids even if you’re away from home. In addition, the new update will also expand Calm Onboarding to non-Samsung products. These will also need to support the SmartThings platform. Lastly, SmartThings will now begin supporting Matter 1.4. With Matter 1.4 support now available, more energy-management devices will work with the latest version of SmartThings, including devices like water heaters and solar power devices.
