The big news of the day is here! Wait for it… just wait for it…

Thanks to a listing on the official HTC website we now know that the One will be available in red. That’s it folks, now you can breathe a sigh of relief and return to your normal routine. I kid, I kid.

Seriously though, in addition to the classic black and white options, the HTC One will be available in red. Hopefully, the red version will be available for everyone, instead of remaining an AT&T exclusive. In the past, the Samsung Galaxy S3 was also released in a solitary red edition, which was only available through -you guessed it- AT&T.

In case you haven’t taken a gander at the Android Headlines front page lately, the HTC One was officially confirmed this morning. It will be available starting March 15, 2013 and will see a launch with more than 85 different mobile carriers internationally.

Nothing is set in stone concerning price yet. In fact, HTC hasn’t even mentioned a price tag for the One. If I had to guess though, it’s probably going to be somewhere close to $199 subsidized (with a two year contract). If you don’t have $200 lying around then you’re in luck because HTC just announced a trade-in program that will earn you $100 for your old device, after you buy a brand new One. Of course, you’ll have to wait for the money, HTC is only going to send out checks until after the One is available because one of the requirements to participate happens to be proof of purchase.

The good news is that anyone who hates the colors black and white, when it comes to a phone finish, can rest easy. I’m fairly certain the red edition looks better than the other two versions, and it at least spices up the lackluster HTC design a bit.

For good measure, here is the complete list of HTC One specs (or at least what we know so far):

  • 4.7-inch 1080p display giving it a 468ppi
  • 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 32/64GB internal storage; No microSD card slot
  • Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS and GLONASS
  • 2,300mAh battery
  • Android 4.1.2
  • Sense 5.0
  • IR Reciever allowing you to use the HTC One as a TV remote

What do you think of the new red finish? Are you liking the color red, or would you much rather go with the traditional black or white models?

UPDATE: It would appear that we were a little hasty in our reporting. HTC has since removed the tab dedicated to the red version of the phone on their official website. It’s possible it will be available at a later date, or will be released as a carrier exclusive. For now, HTC claims it was listed in error.
