Apple's SVP Says "Android is Just a Feature Phone Replacement"; He's also Worried About the Galaxy S4 Launch Tomorrow

We all know that Samsung is getting ready to announce their 2013 flagship phone, the Galaxy S4 tomorrow. We also know that Apple doesn’t like Google/Android or Samsung. Hence all their legal spats with the Korean manufacturer lately. Well Apple’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, Phil Schiller spoke out on Samsung’s event today, and also about Android. So what was his message about the Galaxy S4? “Nanner, nanner, iPhone is better, duh.” Well if that were true Mr. Schiller, why does Android have such a huge market share? Or even Samsung having a larger market share than Apple?

Schiller spoke with the Wall Street Journal and told them that in the fourth quarter of 2012, they saw four times as many people switching from Android to iPhone than from iPhone to Android. Schiller also criticized Android for being an open platform and also stated that phones will never have the same ease of use as the iPhone. His reason? Because so many companies are involved in Android development.

“When you take an Android device out of the box, you have to sign up to nine accounts with different vendors to get the experience iOS comes with,” Schiller said. “They don’t work seamlessly together.”

Really, Mr. Schiller? When I restore my phone to factory setting and set it up like it’s brand new, I only sign into my Gmail. My math might be a bit rusty, but that’s far from “nine accounts”. Am I right? Schiller also explained that Android phones are being given out as replacements for feature phones. Well that is true. We are seeing a lot of cheaper Android phones coming out. And many ones that are free on contract.

Lately Samsung and Apple’s relationship has been getting pretty bad, from Apple suing Samsung for everything it can, to Apple even looking to other vendors for parts for their iPhone. The overall relationship between the two companies has really gotten intense lately, but that shouldn’t be much of a surprise, especially with Samsung targeting Apple in ads, and even with new products like the Galaxy Note 8.0.

So should Phil Schiller be worried about what Samsung is announcing tomorrow? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
