Well well. You don’t see this often enough (though you should). The news that usually comes out of the mobile market in the past couple of months was all about bigger resolutions or more processing power, but not much in a key aspect of what makes a device mobile – the battery. While the display and the processor are important, the battery life is one of the most important aspects of the phone. You can’t do much with a smart phone with an awful battery life (except keeping it always plugged in like a landline phone). Of course, I’m not expecting miracles here. More than 2 days of battery life, in my experience at least, is like expecting my phone to walk on water.
Apparently HTC addressed this exact issue when designing the HTC One to come equipped with a 2300mAh battery. And good on them too, since it seems that their latest flagship beats its competitors in yet another category. According to the tests conducted by the British website expertreviews.co.uk the handset made the top of the list in terms of battery life-time on 3G talk-time coming in at 17.8 hours (or a more humanly way to put it, 17 hours and 48 minutes). Speaking for myself,
I think I’d talk that much in a couple of months, Skype not included. More of a text person, myself. The phone also performed above par at video playback, lasting a staggering 8 and a half hours on a single charge. And this, on a 4.7 inch display with a resolution of 1080p and a pixel density of 468 ppi. Not too shabby, HTC.
So HTC has in its hands a top class device, with a monster quad-core processor clocked at 1,7 GHz, a display that has little competition in terms of image quality, a generous battery which can handle the hardware specs and, also worth mentioning, the building materials used are premium grade. One of the best on the market until now, at least. It should capitalize on this as much as possible, considering the economic rut they are currently in. And do this fast, since Samsung’s latest Galaxy S smart phone is about to be announced this week and could start shipping as soon as mid-April.
