I know you’re probably thinking to yourself “isn’t it to early for Nexus 5 leaks?” That’s exactly what I was thinking. Over the weekend we got a nice leak about the Nexus 5. Now most of us, including myself thought it was fake. Just based on the specs. But those same specs have surfaced again after seeing a different set of specs leak this morning along with rumors that it would use Nikon technology for the camera. Which seemed plausible since a Googler said recently that they want the Nexus line to be like a DSLR in your pocket. Here’s this morning’s leaked specs:
- 5-inch 1080p display
- 3140 mAh battery
- Snapdragon 600 CPU
And the ones that have resurfaced from the weekend:
- 5.2-inch IPS display
- Snapdragon 800 CPU clocked at 2.1GHz
- 16MP camera
- 3GB of RAM
- 2,900mAh battery
PhoneArena was sent this tip and this press render you see above. Now take this with a grain of salt, as we do with every leak. But doesn’t it look like the Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus had a baby? Also check out the icons, those look like a cross between LG’s custom UI and icons from Ice Cream Sandwich. Now onto the date and time. It says May 15, 2013. That is the first day of Google I/O which is normally when the new version of Android is announced, and whatever new devices they have to announce. Then 8:45 (Pacific time) is about the time the keynote would begin.
Now the weird thing here is that the Nexus 4 was just announced in late October, and became available in mid-November. So it’s kinda early for them to bring out a new Nexus phone. Most of us were expecting a next generation Nexus 7 at Google I/O. But at this point who knows. Remember to take this with a grain of salt though, but feel free to drool over those specs. I know I’d love a Nexus 5 with those kinda specs, what about you?
You may remember all the leaks leading up to the Nexus 4 last year, many different hoaxes as well. You remember the Sony Nexus? And all the fake stuff about Android 4.2which was said to be Key Lime Pie in that hoax? Yeah, so we need to be careful with this stuff. This is definitely looking like another hoax, but we’ll still check it out and see what we can come up with about the Nexus 5.
Update: Phone Arena has confirmed that this is indeed a fake. It’s actually a Chinese 3G smartphone.
