The Verizon variant of the HTC One has seen quite a bit of uncertainty over the past few weeks. For starters, it was never announced along with the AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile versions. This has left many to speculate that Verizon won’t be getting the One, or that maybe it will get a redesigned variant. The question still remains, did Verizon decide to pass on the HTC One or not?
Just yesterday, Alex reported that the HTC One was coming to Verizon later this year.
According to a document from the Walmart wireless division, a Verizon model is actually supposed to arrive sometime in March, right alongside the AT&T and Sprint models. The document also clearly states that the One will replace the HTC Droid DNA on retail shelves.
Rumors are so damn fickle, and often confusing, to say the least. Whether the document is legitimate or not, it still begs the question, why didn’t Verizon announce the device earlier? It’s possible HTC, and Verizon are still working things out, but why haven’t we heard anything since then?
It’s even possible that Walmart made a goof here, and ‘Verizon’ is a just typo on the document. For example, maybe someone meant to list T-Mobile instead? Then again, why would the document mention that the device is replacing the Droid DNA?
There’s also mention of the RIM Laguna, or Blackberry Z10 for those who don’t recognize the infamous codename. This gives further credence that a Verizon version is actually coming because the Verizon Z10 is expected to launch sometime this month.
Don’t get too excited about the news just yet though. We have yet to see an official confirmation from Verizon or HTC. Still, the idea that Big Red is the only carrier that won’t be getting the HTC One just doesn’t sit well with me.
