The Meizu MX 3 Rumored To Be Powered By The Samsung Exynos 5

The Xiaomi MI-3 wasn’t the only smartphone out of China to have hit the rumor mills yesterday. Not to be outdone by their country mate, another company, Meizu, dropped a few hints about their upcoming MX 3 handset which is a followup to their MX 2 that was released last November.

The Meizu MX 2 you may remember was sold at $400 US unlocked for the 16GB variant ($480/32GB $640/64GB) and offered some decent specs for the price including a Samsung 1.6GHz Quad-core Processor. The MX 2 was also easily rooted so owners didn’t have to worry about dealing with the pre installed skin called Flyme 2.0, which is a knockoff of the popular MIUI ROM.

Following in the footsteps of it’s predecessor the MX 3 will also be powered by a Samsung processor, this time the Exynos 5 Octa chipset (the 5410 model), which is the same one that will be in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S IV. As for the outside of the device we also know that the display will be 5.1″ inches and sporting 1200 x 1920 pixel resolution, which is good but by today’s standards it doesn’t make it stand out from the rest of the field. Additionally, in order to compensate for the larger screen, Meizu is planning on making the MX 3 with much smaller bezels on each side of the screen.

As far as software goes the MX 3 will have an additional app to be compatible with the Smart Bar. For those of you who don’t know what that is, the Smart Bar is a “logical solution that blends the function keys and navigation bar together at the bottom of the screen”. Also included with the MX 3 will be Weibo integration, which many would call the Chinese version of Twitter, as well as a new online music service.

Now before we get too far ahead of ourselves there is little to no chance that this handset will ever see the light of day outside of it’s home country. But this is a company to keep your eye in in the future because if there is a demand for such a device they may eventually make them available to the rest of the world.
