LG's New York Event to "Share the Genius" of the Optimus G Pro; US Launch Details?

LG have been sending out invitations to an event they’re hosting in New York City come May 1st and now, we know just want the event is going to be all about. Just as we thought, it seems that LG’s New York shindig is going to be all about the “genius” that is the Optimus G Pro. The device has been available in South Korea for some time now and we’ve been hearing rumors of the device hitting AT&T in the States. Whether or not LG are going to be announcing more than one carrier remains unknown but, it’d be pretty strange for them to announce for one carrier, when the Optimus G made it to more than just AT&T last year.

There’s talk of the US receiving the 5-inch variant of the Optimus G Pro but, who knows, maybe LG is more than happy to take on Samsung and their Galaxy Note line? If you missed out on what makes LG’s Optimus G Pro a little more “pro” than the Optimus G, then take a look at the specs below:

  • 5.5-inch Full HD Display (1920—1080 resolution) / 5.0-inch display in Korea
  • 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor
  • 2GB or DDR RAM
  • 32GB internal storage; Expandable via microSD card slot
  • 13MP rear-facing camera; 2.1MP front-facing camera
  • 3,140mAh battery
  • Android 4.1.2 – Jelly Bean
  • 150.2—76.1—9.4mm dimensions

This is a strange time for LG to be announcing a device for the US Market, with the HTC One having just launched and Samsung’s Galaxy S IV just around the corner. Can LG hope to steal the limelight? It’s yet to be unseen but, there’s a good chance that LG could pre-empt the Galaxy Note III with its 1080p 5.5-inch display but, will buyers take to LG instead of Samsung’s Note? It’s hard to imagine but, if LG were to bring out the 5.5-inch version that’s what they’d be hoping for.

What do you think? Could LG have a successful device on their hands with the Optimus G Pro or should they wait until later in the year?
