We all know there’s a new version of Android coming at Google I/O in just a few weeks. Many people think it’s Android 5.0, and also think it’s Key Lime Pie. What other desert starts with a K? We’re all expecting Android 5.0 to show its face at Google I/O next month because, well what Google I/O be without a new version of Android to play with? So far the entire Google I/O line up is a bit mysterious. We’ve heard rumors of the Motorola X Phone, but that’s also rumored to be shipping in August, and not June. We’ve also heard of a slightly updated Nexus 4 coming at I/O. Now it’s starting to look like Key Lime Pie won’t be on the Google I/O menu this year.
Gadgetronica has information from what they call a “trusty internal source” that the Nexus 5 will show up at Google I/O on May 15th. Now we question this (and we aren’t the only site questioning it by the way), because there’s basically little chance that the Nexus 5 will show its face at Google I/O this year. Of course, we could be wrong and it wouldn’t be the first time. So before we move forward, go find some salt, you’ll need a lot of it for the rest of this story.
Google is supposedly putting off the launch of Key Lime Pie for another two to four months, which is due to motivation form OEMs and giving them time to come out with their own Jelly Bean Updates. Most of the flagship devices are still on Android 4.1, which if Android 5.0 launches this summer, will put them 2 major Android versions behind.
As PocketNow says, it doesn’t sound like Google at all. And we’d have to agree with them there. Google Announced Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean just eight months after the huge update that was Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich. They also announced Android 4.2 just 4 months after Android 4.1. But then Android 4.2 was a rather small update compared to Android 4.0 to 4.1. So we have no proof that the next version of Android is being delayed, but we also have no proof that it isn’t. So remember this is just a rumor.
