Google has owned Motorola for over a year now, but we have to see any Motorola devices that were heavily influenced by the search giant. Many people, however, believe that the next flagship device from the manufacturer will be its first device to have a touch of Google on it. Rumors of a Motorola/Google X Phone have been around for a long time now, but we’ve always remained a bit skeptical as to their legitimacy. On Thursday, PhoneArena added to the jumble of X Phone news by claiming that the rumored release date of a non-existant device has been pushed back to another rumored day.
The report claims that the release date of the X Phone has been pushed back to August or later from the original rumored date of late June or July. The blog’s source goes on to say that the device is still in the early phases of development and is still a prototype. It is planned to feature a 4.7-inch 1080p display with an incredibly thin bezel. It will supposedly lack a microSD card slot, and ship with a version of Android 4.2 that’s no quite stock. That’s interesting because if it truly is a Google/Motorola device, wouldn’t it run Android 5.0? Especially if it won’t be released until after Google I/O?
There’s no reason given as to why the device is delayed, but if it really still is in the prototype phase, then it’s all together possible that it will be delayed several more times.
I personally will remain very, very skeptical of the supposed Motorola X Phone. The rumors we have heard about it have been so far out there that they are hard to believe. I just don’t see Motorola and Google working together to release a fully customizable device. Rumors have suggested that the device will be sold from an online store that will allow you to customize things like the color of the device, amount of RAM, and size. We’ve heard rumors of Google releasing multiple Nexus phones at the same time before, and they never panned out. I think Google knows that the last thing it needs is to clutter the market with more screen sizes and internals.
