We all love Tumblr right? It’s one of those sites that aren’t as popular as Twitter, Google+ and Facebook, yet we still spend way to much time on it. I know I spend the most of my time on Tumblr on my phone or tablet, using their Android app. Well today it just got a very much needed design overhaul. Best of all, it’s Holo-fied. For those that don’t know, Holo is the new Android 4.x theming we started seeing with Ice Cream Sandwich back in late 2011. Some examples of Holo apps are Gmail, Messaging (on Nexus devices), Google Calendar, etc. Last week we saw Twitter go Holo, and now Tumblr has followed suite. It’s about time these big name apps started going Holo.
You can check out the screenshots through out this post to see how much of a difference it makes. It doesn’t look completely different from the old version, but it does have several Holo elements in the app. For starters, it has the menu button in the upper right-hand side like it should. They’ve also added some new post animations and now images just pop as they should on Tumblr. Overall this new design looks a lot cleaner then the old version, at least in my opinion.
You can now post from your home screen with the Tumblr widget. I’m not sure if that’s new or not, but I don’t remember there being a Tumblr widget before. The app also allows the ability to seamlessly manage multiple blogs all at once, which is always a major plus. As we’ve said the interface is pretty nice and not to mention it’s a lot faster than before. We like faster, right?
