Google Now-esque Google Search Now Live on Chrome with version 27.0.1453.93

Today, the Chrome team has pushed out a new update to the Chrome stable version for your desktop. It’s now sitting at version 27.0.1453.93. I’ve been using it for a little bit now doing different tasks for the site and our social media pages, and the only really difference I’ve seen is that the Google Now style of Google Search is now live. Now what’s interesting here is that I haven’t updated the Chromebook Pixel yet and it works on there, which is running version 27.0.1453.83 and is on the beta channel, so maybe it was already there, since I’m running the beta channel.

It’s not quite the full contextual search that we saw at Google I/O last week. But it does allow you to talk to your PC and ask for it to search for something. For instance you can ask it to search for the Nexus 4, and it’ll pop up information for the Nexus 4. Of course, you can still go ahead and type it in the old fashioned way. But none of us want to do that right?

So just head to google.com and tap or click on the microphone in the search box and you’ll be taken to a page that looks like the one above, and you can just talk to your computer about what you are looking for. We should probably say this, even though it’s common sense, your PC needs to have a microphone input. Whether it be a microphone, or a speaker. Without one, it won’t work. You’ll also need to give permission for the site (google.com) to listen to your voice.

Isn’t this cool? What do you think about this new feature for Google Search? Now just bring on the contextual search, Google! I’m waiting! What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments down below.
