LG Not Working on the Nexus 5; Hints European VP

It seems that LG are getting a little busier towards the end of the month, they just announced the white Nexus 4 and they have plans for tablets later in the year. Something that a lot of people have been looking to LG about is the next Nexus. It was surprising when Google partnered with LG to bring the Nexus 4 to market and while supply couldn’t match up to demand at launch, the device was still something of a success for both LG and Google. We reported earlier that the European VP for LG let slip some plans for later in the year, out of the same interview comes word that LG will not be making the next Nexus, or at least that’s what it sounds like:

“The Nexus 4 was a great success despite the production problems for us and Google. However we do not need such a marketing success again.”

That’s a short quote but, for him to say that LG don’t need such a marketing success again, suggests that LG are done with the whole pure Android thing. Which is a shame really but, what’s more of a shame is that LG feels that the use of skins and exclusive features will set them apart from the rest of the pack. Technically, LG are right, but skins aren’t the best answer to such a problem. Innovative features like the myriad of sensors in the Galaxy S4 and BoomSound in the HTC One are how your company can really set themselves aside from the rest.

All this makes this year’s Nexus situation more mysterious than it was before. With the XFON doing the rounds through the FCC for a number of carriers, it’s looking likely that it’s just another release from Motorola, and not the Unicorn for stock Android we all thought it was going to be. What’s more confusing is that Google seem to have plans for a Nexus device with high-end imaging, just who is going to make such a device? Give us your prediction in the comments below!
