Samsung Galaxy S4: A Look at S Health

It was March 14th, at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Samsung introduced to the world the Samsung Galaxy S4. Sure the presentation wasn’t the best, or even all that enjoyable. But the Galaxy S4 packs a ton of features, actually that might even be an understatement. Over the next few weeks we’ll be taking a look at some of these features and breaking them down to see how good they are and if customers would use them everyday. Today we’re taking a look at S Health. Which is Samsung’s new app or service that is aiming to get everyone fit, or is that just how I see it?

With S Health, you can track what you eat and what exercise you are doing. Or more importantly, track how many calories you are taking in and how many you are burning. S Health can be setup to track how many steps you take in a day. You can also set goals. For instance, I set a goal of 20,000 steps per day. The max goal is 50,000 steps per day. Personally I’ve found S Health to get me up and moving and away from my desk, where I spend the most of my time. Which is a good thing.

You do have to enter your food in manually, but once you build a library, it becomes much simpler. You can also put in your exercises you did during the day. S Health has some nice accessories that will be coming out soon. Like a scale that connects to your phone via Bluetooth. Then there’s the S Band as well, which is kinda like the Jawbone UP or the Fitbit.

I’ve spent the past few days with the Galaxy S4 and S Health, and I’ve gotta say that S Health is a pretty compelling feature to me. Like I said already, it makes me get up and away from my desk. Which is a good thing, since I spend most of my day at my desk working. We’ll be touch on S Health a bit in the full review which will be out soon. The review might take longer than usual due to all the features Samsung have in the Galaxy S4.

How many of you use the Jawbone Up or one of Fitbit’s products? Would you consider using S Health instead? Let us know in the comments down below.
