Ah, the “next Nexus7”, the “new Nexus 7”, the “Nexus 7 II” – whatever the hell this is device is going to be called (if indeed, it even exists) it seems like one of the most anticipated devices in some time, doesn’t it? Or at least, when it comes to a Nexus device. The first Nexus 7 was a very successful tablet and I’m sure a lot of you are probably reading this on yours right now. So, it stands to reason that Google will want to solidify their success in the tablet space, at the same time keeping up with Amazon and Apple that are more than likely going to release new tablets this year themselves.
New reports have come in that the next Nexus tablet could be shipping with a 1920 x 1200 display, something we’ve heard before, which would give the tablet a retina pixel density of 323 ppi. CNet are reporting that the tablet’s display is to be manufactured by JDI and AUO and that a release is “not too far away”. We recently heard reports that the tablet will cost more than last year’s offering, coming in at $229. Quanta are said to be producing the tablet, which did the manufacturing honors for ASUS on last year’s Google tablet, which suggests yet another ASUS branded Nexus 7.
The FCC has always been a great help in matters such as this and it could have just unveiled one more piece of the puzzle for us, a mysterious ASUS tablet has recently passed through their doors. The tablet was said to be running Android 4.3 and thanks to the Bluetooth SIG listing for the K008 tablet, it’s looking like this could well be the next Nexus 7. Of course, said device could be yet another ASUS product.
Specs wise, the next Nexus 7 is said to be featuring a Snapdragon S4 Pro, that beautiful 1900 x 1200 LCD, a 3,950 mAh battery and 2GB of RAM. All of this sounds nice and all but, do specs really matter that much at this point? Google aren’t going to release a tablet that paints Android in a bad light and if the price is a little higher this time around, then the build and performance must increase as well.
Are you holding out on the next Nexus 7, or is your current Nexus holding up just fine?
