Android Headliner: The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 – What to Expect

Back at IFA in 2011, Samsung unveiled this monster of a phone. It was a 5.3-inch Galaxy Note. It was basically only available internationally, until it hit AT&T in early 2012, and hit T-Mobile for about 2 weeks later in 2012. Then comes IFA 2012. Samsung holds their Unpacked event as they normally do, and they announce the Galaxy Note 2 with a 5.5-inch 720p display, along with the Galaxy Camera. The Galaxy Note 2 would later launch on 5 US carriers between September and November of the same year. The Galaxy Note 2 was a huge success for Samsung, and we expect the Galaxy Note 3 to be an even huger success for the Korean manufacturer.

So what do we know about the Galaxy Note 3 already? Well we know it’s going to be bigger, which was pretty much a given. We’ve heard rumors that it would sport anything from a 5.7 to a 6.3-inch display. More of the recent rumors are pointing towards a 5.7-inch display which follow the trend of the Note and Note 2. There was a .2-inch difference between the two. We’ve also heard some more crazy rumors that there will be eight variants of the Galaxy Note 3. Now that might not be all that crazy since there will be at least four variants for the US, possibly more. There’s also a rumor that there will be an AMOLED and a LCD variant as well. Quite like the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 Active are AMOLED and LCD displays. We are also hearing that Samsung will have a Snapdragon 800 variant and a Exynos 5 Octa variant. We also know that next week, Samsung is unveiling their new Exynos 5 Octa processor.

What we do know, and this is confirmed, the Galaxy Note 3 is going to be a beast. There has been some talk about Samsung being “worried” about their build quality. But if you look how many Galaxy S4’s they’ve sold already, I don’t think they have much to be worried about. Sure they aren’t on pace to sell the 100 million they wanted too, but they are still selling a boatload of them. I also think that if Samsung is working on a new design, we won’t see it until the Galaxy S5, since these things take time. Although I do have the Galaxy S4 Active right now for review, and the build quality is really nice. I’d say it’s much better than the Galaxy S4 and S3. So if the Galaxy Note 3 is anything like the Galaxy S4 Active, I’m definitely going to buy it. Actually it’ll probably be my next phone anyways.

About the S Pen. We’ve seen nothing stating that it won’t still be there come Galaxy Note 3. There were some sketches that surfaced this week that didn’t show a slot for the S Pen which got some people worried. Don’t worry, Samsung’s not getting rid of the S Pen. Or else this would just be another Galaxy Mega.

That’s about all we know about the Galaxy Note 3. I’m definitely excited to see it unveiled in early-September. At this point, I think it’ll be my upgrade to replace my Galaxy S3/Nexus 4 (depending on what I’m using at the time). How many of you are excited for the Galaxy Note 3?
