Android Headliner: What Does the Droid Mini, Maxx and Ultra Show About the Moto X?

Today, Motorola and Verizon announced the new generation of their Droid Lineup. Which features the Motorola Droid Ultra, Droid Mini and Droid Maxx. The Droid Mini of course is the smaller version of the Droid Ultra, but with the same internals. And the Droid Maxx has a whooping 3500mAh battery and boasting 2 days of battery life. So what do the new Droid lineup tell us about the Moto X?

During the press conference today, Motorola and Verizon actually talked very little about the specs. In fact, we had a hard time trying to find the specs of the devices. They talked more about the features and the software. Which is what Samsung did when they announced the Galaxy S4. I also expect Motorola to do the same thing when they announce the Moto X on August 1st. Verizon showed off a few features which have been leaked about the Moto X, including the Touchless Control, Active Display, and Quick Capture. Touchless Control appears to be like the “OK Google Now” on the Moto X. The Active Display appears to be the next generation notification light, which we’ve heard will be on the Moto X. And then the Quick Capture looks a lot like the double twist thing in the Moto X to take pictures. So the new Droid Family is really a first look at the Moto X. Even though the Moto X is going to be even more of a mid-ranger than the Droid Mini.

The Droid line also has Ingress pre-installed, which makes us wonder if the Moto X will have it pre-installed. Most likely it won’t but that’s still one piece of bloat that I wouldn’t mind having pre-installed. Verizon is also offering everyone who buys a Droid before September 30th, 6 months of Google Play Music All Access for free. That might be for the Droid’s only, but I’d love to see that on the Moto X. So we didn’t see a ton of insight into what the Moto X will have from the new Droid lineup, but it does give us some insight that is pretty interesting. And will also keep us busy until next weeks event.

The new Droid Mini, Maxx and Ultra look like some pretty good devices from Motorola (A Google Company). And will tie us over for a bit, as well as giving Verizon users a choice between 4 different phones. Although if I were on Verizon, I’d grab the Droid Maxx, for that crazy battery life.
