This theory has been swirling around since the end of July, with both Samsung and HTC “reviewing” how they would handle Android Jelly Bean updates from the current 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 and 4.3, the latest and last Jelly Bean update announced by Google before Android 5.0, Key Lime Pie, comes out possibly later this year.
The HTC One International versions were already upgraded to 4.2.2 over a month ago, and the Google One edition was upgraded to Android Jelly Bean 4.3, shortly after Google made its official announcement while the U.S. editions are still running Android 4.1.2. Verizon’s HTC One version, the last major carrier to release the HTC One, will sport Android 4.2.2.
Samsung had announced that their Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 would jump from 4.1.2 directly to 4.3 and just skip 4.2.2 altogether. It was also rumored that HTC would follow that same upgrade road for their flagship the HTC One, and now it looks like a couple official tweets confirms this decision.
HTC President of Global Sales, Jason MacKenzie, was recently tweeted by a frustrated user asking why Verizon will launch their HTC One with 4.2.2, while the Developer Editions were still stuck on 4.1 and he tweeted:
The same person questioned why HTC was skipping Android 4.2.2 since it was an already tested and stable release and Mr. MacKenzie answered:
It is possible Mr. MacKenzie was speaking only about the HTC One Developer’s Edition since the question specifically addressed that version, but with Samsung already making the announcement they were skipping to 4.3 and the fact that he mentioned it was such a minor update, it makes sense HTC would simply do that with all HTC Ones. Mr. Mackenzie ignored the question as to when we can expect the update.
