We could never get a firm launch date from LG about their highly anticipated flagship, the G2, other than August – September. Eager to get their new phone out before Apple’s new iPhone 5S hits the streets, sources familiar with LG’s strategy has Verizon’s launch date set for September 12 with AT&T launching the next day, with AT&T pre-orders open on September 3 and an added bonus of a free folio case.
The timing makes sense for LG because by launching on the two largest networks in the U.S. on September 12 and 13, they should beat the new HTC One Max, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and Apple’s new iPhone 5S to the punch. That way we can already have reviews of the LG G2 and make an educated purchase.
LG really made a name for itself with the well received and reviewed, Nexus 4, and the G2 looks to carry on that tradition as a real powerhouse that should compete well against all of its competition. It has the world’s thinnest 5.2-inch Full HD 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.26GHz processor, the first Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB RAM, 32GB Internal Storage, 3000mAh Battery, 13MP Camera, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean (a little disappointing it will not have 4.3 out of the box). One interesting feature is the volume rocker switch is on the rear of the phone near the camera and it should be interesting what users think of that switch placement.
What is truly exciting for Verizon customers is that for once, they will not have to wait for a new flagship phone – look at how long it took them to get the HTC One. The G2 is also schedule to launch in the UK the end of September and at unknown dates on Sprint and T-Mobile. Let us know in the comments if you will be picking up a G2 – or are you waiting for the Note 3, the HTC One Max, or a new iPhone.
