Today is the day that the Moto X finally gets announced and with it hopefully comes pricing and availability throughout not just the US but also the rest of the World. Just because today is the day it doesn’t mean that little tidbits of info have finished leaking out before the event. A new app from “Motorola Mobility Inc” has just gone live in the Play Store, and it’s called “Motorola Migrate”. Does anybody want to guess what it does?
If you guessed “transfer stuff”, you win! From the screenshots in the short Play Store listing, we can be pretty sure that this is an app designed to be used in conjunction with that shiny new Moto X you’ll be getting soon.
From the above screenshot, it looks as if this app is designed to be installed on the old phone, and then when you’re setting up the Moto X, you just scan the QR Code to get your stuff transferred. From the looks of it, the Motorola Migrate app will take care of pretty much everything that’s on your device.
Just as Android Police is pondering, we’re interested to see just how “Media” is going to be transferred. We’d assume that both devices need to be connected to the same WiFi network for a transfer to take place.
There’s really very little that we can gleam from the Play Store listing but, there are few conclusions that we can draw. For one thing, I was able to install the app here in the UK, so maybe the Moto X isn’t going to be a US exclusive after all. The app is compatible with devices running Android 2.2 and above and the app is only 931k in size, so a lot of the magic might well be built into the Moto X’s firmware itself.
There’s not much point in you installing this app, unless you’re already pretty sure that you’re going to be buying a Moto X. In that case, then click the button below and knock yourself out.
