We’re seeing how companies are starting to fight for the best camera tech in a smartphone. First Samsung released the awkwardly shaped Galaxy S4 Zoom, then Nokia launched the Lumia 1020 with Windows Phone 8 and a 41 megapixel sensor. Next month Sony will release the Xperia i1 with a 20.7 megapixel camera and an ExmorRS sensor and not too long ago, Oppo announced that they would be releasing a camera phone named the Oppo N1, the first of the N-Lens Series.
We’re now getting confirmation directly from Oppo Mobile that the N1 will be released in September which is just a month away in one of the busiest months of the year. In September we’ll have IFA 2013 preceded by Sony and Samsung events and now we have Oppo to add to the list. It looks like companies are battling for attention instead of looking the best moment to announce devices so that they won’t cross with the others.
The Oppo N1 is said to have a 12 megapixel camera with a Xenon flash and a new “Owl” sensor which by the name we can assume it’s aiming for the best low-light performance possible. The rest of the device is said to be on par with the Oppo Find 5 with a better processor, possibly the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 or the 800.
If Oppo wants to give the N1 a fighting chance, they not only have to deliver superb camera performance but a flawless overall design and performance running at least Android 4.2.2 like the best devices in the market.
We’re also seeing a teaser for the N1 showing what it seems to be the bottom of the device with a micro USB port, a headphone jack and a speaker grill.
Oppo is not one of the usual big brands we’re used to seeing everywhere, but the Oppo Find 5 has gotten some great reviews and if the N1 delivers on the quality, we might have to start paying more attention to the Chinese manufacturer. With September just around the corner, the Oppo N1 should be here soon and we’ll see how it performs so we can compare it to the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Sony Xperia i1.
